•	The Athletics and the [[Tigers]] were supposed to play a double header at Columbia Park, but rain forced the cancellation of the second game and the A's came away with a 4-1 victory in the first

•	The Tigers loaded the bases in the seventh with no outs, but A's starter [[Snake Wiltse]] got out of the jam without giving up a run

•	The game was delayed twice when the steady drizzle turned into a downpour

•	The //Detroit Free Press// reported that the team had signed third baseman [[Billy Lauder]] to a contract for the 1902 season, but no mention of the deal had been made in the Philadelphia press
