American League president Ban Johnson was hard at work trying to get a lease on a ballpark in Philadelphia. A committee of the city council was to have taken up the matter of a lease on the old Athletics grounds at 26th and Jefferson, but the committee chair postponed the hearing for two weeks to permit the submission of objections from members of the community.
