News
• The Athletics committed eight errors in an 11-4 loss to the White Stockings at Columbia Park
• The Sox were just days removed from a wild affair against Cleveland that involved pitcher Jack Katoll deliberately injuring umpire Jack Haskell with a pitched ball and shortstop Frank Shugart throwing and landing a punch on the very same arbiter
• Both players had been immediately suspended with Shugart on the brink of receiving a permanent ban imposed by the league office
Injury Updates
• Third baseman Lave Cross was still out with a knee injury and now second baseman Nap Lajoie was forced to the bench with an “incipient abscess” of the knee as the result of a spike wound that hadn't yet healed properly
• Joe Dolan continued to play third in Cross's absence and Dave Fultz came in from center field to take Lajoie's spot
• Socks Seybold moved from right field to center and pitcher Bill Bernhard was sent out to patrol the pasture out in right
• Pitcher Eddie Plank, who had been absent since a beaning on the 14th was back in uniform and was thought to be able to get back on the mound by the end of the month
