To prevent anyone from getting cold feet and leaving, each of the seven teams of the American League turned over 51 percent of their stock to the league for safe keeping. The seven teams were based in Baltimore, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Milwaukee, Philadelphia, and Washington. The eighth city was still undetermined with a candidate to be chosen from among Boston, Buffalo, or Indianpolis.
