• Cleveland's Erve Beck hit a three-run homer in the third and Athletics starter Eddie Plank had an uncharacteristically awful game in a 9-5 loss at Columbia Park
• American League president Ban Johnson persuaded Orioles president Sydney Frank to accept Johnson's ruling regarding infielder Hughie Jennings
• Orioles team officials then said they would try to make a deal with the A's directly for the coveted player
• Jennings, for his part, said he would be happy to play in either Philadelphia or Baltimore
