• The Athletics took both ends of a double header from Cleveland

• In the first game, new catcher Farmer Steelman hit a walk-off two-run double in the ninth to give the A's an 8-7 win

• In the second game, the A's sent all nine men to the plate in the sixth, scoring five, to take it, 7-3

Connie Mack signed Morris “Farmer” Steelman to back up Doc Powers while Harry Smith was out with appendicitis

• Steelman had been in a contract dispute with Brooklyn manager Ned Hanlon and had declared himself a free agent, a declaration Mack was more than happy to honor

Socks Seybold was back in right field after sitting out yesterday's game with an injured leg

• Third baseman Lave Cross sat out today's contest after sustaining a twisted knee or sprained ankle (reporter's choice) in yesterday's game
